How Do You Turn Strategy into Action?
NetGroup Elevator – 27 November 2002

A well thought out business (e-business) strategy is worthless if it is not effectively adopted within an organisation. Case studies abound of companies with great strategies who failed due to their inability to execute. In a business environment where rapid change is pervasive, and many global businesses function with a federated governance structure, attempting to successfully communicate & execute a single strategy is a major challenge.

NetGroup will be tackling this issue with the help of British American Tobacco, who have employed mechanisms, processes and a governance structure that they believe will help them successfully deliver the strategic vision.

If turning business strategy into action is a focus for you, please join us and share your experience and ideas.

For your interest, we have confirmed attendees from the following companies:
British Library, BT, Cadbury Schweppes, Diageo, Direct Line, Marsh, Nestle UK, Shell, Sony, Standard Chartered Bank and more…

Developing Communities to Drive Economic Value
NetGroup Member Summit – 22 January 2003

During the dot.com bubble, the power of online ‘communities’ was a hot topic of discussion and activity. Unfortunately, with some notable high profile exceptions (e.g. eBay), communities failed to deliver to expectations (i.e. sufficient economic value to justify the investment).

Despite or because of lessons learnt during that period, interest in communities as a corporate business tool is now growing rapidly. Many experts predict this growth trend will continue and accelerate in the next few years.

Jos Gielen, Director of Best Practices within Aviva’s (formerly CGNU) head office, will present a case study on the communities his team have developed to encourage knowledge sharing & collaborative working across Aviva’s global business. The case study addresses the business drivers prompting this action, together with key challenges encountered, lessons learnt and future plans.

The case study will be followed by an open discussion, where delegates have the opportunity to engage in a frank exchange of experience, ideas and difficulties, all in a carefully controlled environment, behind closed doors.

The Summit’s objectives are to provide cross-industry insight, learning and ideas around how to harness the potential business benefits of communities. If you are responsible for knowledge management in a complex, international organisation or are driving a strategically focused, community initiative, please join us & participate.

Strategic Questions…

1.
Are you confident that your team are benchmarking their initiatives with FTSE companies?

2.
Are your Strategy and CRM teams discussing complex business transformation issues with other leading organisations, in controlled “non-vendor” environments?

3.
Are your Corporate Communications, HR and Knowledge Management teams sharing ‘best practice’ with their peers?

4.
Are you sure you have sufficient corporate relationships to help save (time and effort) and succeed in today’s environment?

5.
Are you interested in validating your ideas by hosting an ‘invitation only’ event?

Have you got an interesting mobility story to share?
In April 2003, we’re holding our next Business Mobility Forum (formerly Mobile User Forum) to address members key mobility business issues. We already have two interesting case studies for this event, but are looking for further member participation. If you have a mobility initiative where you could benefit from input and feedback from other members, please let us know.

A member wanted to know…
In our last edition, we asked if any NetGroup Members are currently using Google to search internal content?

According to a NetGroup member (who wishes to remain anonymous), Google does not have a direct support function in Europe and is therefore not a viable option for large organisations this side of the pond.

Please let us know if you have anything further to add from your experience.

Share the Knowledge
Are there any Best Practices, Case Studies or other digital business related material which you have created and would be willing to share with other members?

This information will be made available to subscribing corporate members only on our secure, password protected area of the website.
