Data Protection Community launching in 2003
We’re setting up a Data Protection Community to help our members share knowledge and understanding around both internal and external Data Protection issues.

The community will address DP issues primarily from a Marketing/Customer Relationship perspective. The objectives for the community will be set out in a charter to be released in the new year. Key activities will include helping members to understand the business ramifications of current UK and EU legislation, together with the potential costs of compliance/risks of non-compliance to business activities, brand and reputation.

The mix of pan-European and global companies participating in the community means there will also be a strong focus on cross-border compliance.

For existing nominated members of the NetGroup community, access to our Data Protection community is free of charge for the first year. If you are not currently a nominated member, but would like to participate, please contact us for more information.

Communities are emerging as a strategic tool for businesses
A growing number of organisations are discovering the strategic imperative to create & develop communities for their customers & employees. In a business environment where customer retention is key, community tools offer a unique way to deepen customer loyalty. Similarly, within organisations, communities can drive more effective collaboration, improving productivity, quicker decision-making and cost reductions through the eradication of duplicated effort/investment.

In January, NetGroup is focusing on community through an event with Aviva (26 January). In the lead-up to this event, I will be providing NetGroup members with some insight to the opportunities and issues you should be considering, and pointing out some interesting sources of information and expertise to help you tackle this important issue.

BAT – Turning Strategy into Action

A well thought out business (eBusiness) strategy is worthless if it is not effectively adopted within an organisation. Case studies abound of companies with great strategies who failed due to their inability to execute. In a business environment where rapid change is pervasive, and many global businesses function with a federated governance structure, attempting to successfully communicate & execute a single strategy is a major challenge.

NetGroup will be tackling this issue with the help of British American Tobacco, who have employed mechanisms, processes and a governance structure that they believe will help them successfully deliver the strategic vision.

If turning business strategy into action is a focus for you, please join us and share your experience and ideas.
