Editor’s
Comment – Making the best of what you have got
Set against the backdrop of a difficult economic climate for
many of our member companies, internal teams have been slimmed
down and budgets tightly held. And yet companies are being expected
to achieve more than ever before because of a fiercely competitive
marketplace. We are charged with doing more business than ever
before but with less resources.
Therefore senior executives are having to work smarter and recognise
what the levers are, that you can pull to your advantage. One
of the emerging themes is around business networking, particularly
in a peer to peer environment.
Why? If companies are talking to non-competitive organisations,
you have the knowledge of leveraging your business experience
to create a new currency that you can use to help achieve your
business objectives. You can trade with other senior executives
rather than use hard cash and avoid the expense of using consultancies
and third party experts. As one of our members said, after he
attended Knexus’ collaborative session on eProcurement: "How
much would XXXX [One of the big consultancies] charge you to try
and generate this kind of value we had today?"
We know you appreciate the potential of peer-to-peer collaboration
that is why you are a member of Knexus. Did you know that over the
past three months through Knexus Knections, we have facilitated
10 one-to-one Knections involving 11 different companies? Knexus
members using Knections are leveraging their Community to work smarter.

INITIATIVE:
DPEPS
(Data Protection, Ethics, Privacy and Security)
Data
Protection Crisis Management Workshop
Collaborative Session – 1 July 2003
Are you ready for a data protection crisis?
If it happens to your company will you know what to do and what
are the risks of getting it wrong?
Following on the success of our DPEPS
(Data Protection Ethics Privacy and Security) collaborative session
on Email Monitoring, we are running a Data Protection Crisis Management
workshop that will help participants work through their response
to a crisis involving the protection of employee information.
This will be achieved using a real-life
business crisis scenario that will test even the best of crisis
management planners. Knexus members from BP, AXA PPP and Prudential
will be on hand to lead the workshop activities. The workshop
will be held at BP’s London office.
Don’t let your company be the one that is caught out !!
We have prepared a ThoughtPiece showing our members the issues
to be aware of and written a FactFinder, to access links to targeted
sources of information.

Community Update
eProcurement – Feedback
Last month Knexus held a very
successful collaborative session on eProcurement, which included
a case study by Johnson Matthey on how it is approaching eProcurement
and the issues and challenges it faces. Any member wanting a copy
of Johnson Matthey’s presentation can find it on the Knexus portal,
together with a summary of the key ideas, tips and findings from
the participants.
For example, one of the biggest eProcurement issues delegates identified
and discussed, is getting buy-in from suppliers and their catalogues
online.
