Comment – In the Summertime
Now that we have got Wimbledon and The Open out of the way, the
majority of everyone’s attentions will turn to the summer holidays.
With the kids recently breaking up for school, we have now reached
that time of year when everyone you seem to call is either already
on holiday or going on holiday imminently.
For those of us that are left to man the fort, we should use this
time wisely. This is invaluable time to catch up and begin some
future planning. While the pressure is off – albeit only slightly
– it is vital to clear some of those jobs that have been hanging
around for the past few months, sitting at the bottom of the task
list. And at the same time doing some qualitative thinking of
where your business is going.
We wish all of our members a good summer and look forward to seeing
you in September for the next collaborative sessions on eCommerce
Measurement, Enterprise Communities and Portals.
The next edition of Digibiz will be sent to you at the beginning
of September, after we have completed our own summer planning.
In the meantime, there is significant activity in our Community
and in particular our tailored-made Knexions service. If you want
to participate in the existing opportunities or run your own,
check out the Knexions
section on the portal.

eCommerce
– The Measurement Challenge
Collaborative Session – 18 September 2003
If you are involved in eCommerce development,
customer relationships or web management, you cannot afford to
miss the Knexus collaborative session on eCommerce measurement.
Measuring your eCommerce activities is
a key issue today for companies. Businesses have either not put
any measurement tools in place or there is too much measuring
going on but with no clarity to analyse what this means for the
business. Over and above these two issues, many companies are
trying to integrate their web activities into their traditional
business operations and realign this with their overall business.
To share and exchange ideas and experience
around these issues, we have a case
study from Standard Life’s central eCommerce team who will set
out its measurement activities, sharing with us things that work
and things that don’t.
So if you want to find out how well your website activities are
performing, then this is a session not to be ignored!!
If you want to contribute to the ThoughtPiece
and FactFinder then drop Lisa
Barnett, Community Editor at Knexus, an email. This will
be made available to members prior to the collaborative session.

Communities –
Unlocking the Economic Value
Collaborative
Session – 24 September 2003
This
one day activity has been split into two definite areas with Enterprise
Communities in the morning and Enterprise Portals in the afternoon.
GlaxoSmithKline will be the host for both sessions at its main
London headquarters.
The Enterprise Communities session will provide a key insight
into how the Enterprise development team at BAT is using Communities
to move from a federation model of operation to a global enterprise.
BAT’s case study will be followed by an open roundtable discussion
among participating members focused on
unlocking the economic value of Enterprise Communities.
A ThoughtPiece and Fact Finder will be available to members at
the end of next month. If you want to contribute an article about
the issues of Enterprise Communities, let
me know.

Collaborative
Session – 24 September 2003
This
session continues the theme of Enterprise Communities by showing
how the portal can be used as the correct tool. We will look at
how to develop a successful enterprise portal, including member
case studies and a roundtable activity to capture everyone’s experience
and ideas.
Hear how GlaxoSmithKline has reduced 8,000
Intranet sites down to one global Plumtree portal, providing one
easy access for company-wide resources for 100,000 employees.
In contrast, Nestle is in the early stages of development and
will offer an insight into its migration from a corporate Intranet
to an SAP portal. Still in the pilot phase, Nestle will share
its early learnings in getting its employees to adopt it as an
integral business tool.
A ThoughtPiece and Fact Finder will be available to members at
the end of next month.

Marketing – Changing the Ground Rules
Collaborative
Session – 22 October 2003
With
a new Directive due to come into effect on 31 October, will your
marketing activities comply with the new guidelines? This directive
is covering all electronic communications – ie: email and SMS
text messages – between businesses and customers in a bid to stamp
out the unwanted junk mail that is taking hold of the business
world.
The Department of Trade and Industry is hosting this session to
explain how businesses should respond to this Directive. There
will also be a roundtable activity to share and exchange knowledge
and ideas among the participating members on how other businesses
will respond to the changes.
If
you are involved in marketing and communications, then make sure
you join us for what will be a very thought provoking session.

Community Update
DPEPS Crisis Management – Feedback
This month Knexus held a very
successful workshop on Data Protection Crisis Management where the
participants worked through a nine stage hypothetical scenario dealing
with an emerging crisis with their business.
It was agreed that there are five things that need to be in place
within every organisation when dealing with Data Protection issues:
– Reduce damage limitation
– Protect staff
– Communications with press, regulators and trade unions
– Review
– Implement changes
Our next DPEPS (Data Protection, Ethics, Privacy and Security) initiative
is focused on Email Marketing and the changes in the way companies
are allowed to market to their existing and potential new customers.
Book your diary for 22 October to join us.

Community Update
Business Innovation & Technology – Feedback
The second of our collaborative sessions
this month was our Business Innovation and Technology initiative,
which is designed to help you maximise business value and benefits
to your company through new technologies.
We kicked off with a very hot topic for the Community with collaboration.
Marsh gave us an insight on the how the company had improved the
relationship with its customers and won extra business through
implementing collaborative solutions. In the afternoon, we turned
our attentions to Digital TV and multi-channel strategy for customers
as Prudential delivered a candid and fascinating discussion around
these topics.
Results from the collaborative session
showed that:
*87 per cent of participants rated the case studies as higher
than average
*86 per cent of participants felt the session had generated new
ideas
With the date for the next Business Innovation and Technology
set for 27 & 28 November, you cannot afford to miss out on
this key insight into how Autostadt is Strengthening the Customer
Experience using Mobile Technology.
