Enterprise Portals are the next logical step in enabling effective ‘knowledge workers’ within organisations. Today, some companies’ Intranets have developed in a streamline and coherent fashion, while others seek to untangle an unwieldy proliferation of intranet sites that undermine efficiency and effectiveness. Either way, the limitations of Intranets are now well understood and, in many cases, represent an obstacle to empowering employees with the right information and knowledge at the right time. The ability to provide quicker and easier access to mission critical information, tailored around specific job roles, is part of a compelling argument for moving to a portal. Inevitably, however, while the Portal opportunity is relatively straightforward on the surface, there are a myriad of important and sometimes complex business issues to address. Our Enterprise Portals face-to-face collaborative session is an opportunity to engage in an effective exchange of experience, best practice and ideas between members from a cross section of industries and who are using a number of different technological platforms. To provide insight on the current plans and activities of member companies and to stimulate discussions, we have two case study presentations from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Nestle. The case studies are focused on business issues such as governance, information management, usability (user psychology) and functionality and will be followed by Q&A; plus open, roundtable discussions between the participants, with professional moderation provided by Knexus. We would welcome your participation and ideas, so please join us!
