Did you know that since 1996 legislation has been in place stating that websites must not discriminate against people with disabilities and that ‘reasonable adjustments’ must be made to make them accessible?

Have you implemented an accessibility programme to ensure your websites comply with the legislation, allowing the two million people with disabilities in the UK alone to access your websites?

Since 2002 Standard Life has sponsored Royal National Institute of the Blind’s (RNIB’s) Web Access Consultancy Team in a number of initiatives to raise the awareness of website accessibility and to educate designers and managers in how to make websites accessible. Alongside these initiatives work continues in Standard Life to develop and implement an Accessibility Standard, which meets the legislative and customer expectations.

Knexus Community member Standard Life is hosting a collaborative session, which focuses on its experiences of making websites accessible. The session’s objectives are to inform members of the legal, business, ethical and technological cases for making your websites accessible, to demonstrate accessible and inaccessible websites using speech output software and to provide guidance on how to make your websites accessible.

Standard Life’s briefing will be followed by a roundtable discussion among member participants to exchange ideas and knowledge about the practicalities of website accessibility.
