BLENDED LEARNING (ONLINE AND OFFLINE)  back
2 November 2004

You’ve invested in a Learning Management System as a means to increasing staff productivity and personal development. But how do you drive employees to use this tool as a regular global source to improve their skills, overcoming any cultural issues?

Learning Management Systems have become the recognised tool for employees to educate and develop themselves and gain the necessary skills and qualifications to further their careers, as well as the method to complete training to comply with the legal regulations.

But learning and training is not all about making the courses available online. There are a number of ways that corporates are able to train their staff, such as pre-work, shadowing, online modules, classroom workshops, discussions and books. To satisfy the varied needs and abilities, corporates have adopted a blended learning approach of both online and offline activities.

One corporate that is seen as a thought-leader in blended learning is Marsh, the world’s largest risk management and insurance company. Marsh set up a global learning management system in September 2002, called LearningConnect. Through this platform, Marsh employees have access to a content repository such as papers, and library items, such as books and CDs. Employees can book up relevant courses and check their progress towards compliance.

Marsh will present a case study on the current position of its Learning Management System with key insights into how European cultures and behaviour affects its participation levels. Marsh will share with the Community ideas and knowledge of what works well and what doesn’t. There will also be an opportunity to collaborate with other participants over any issues or challenges that you are facing in your organisation in the open and frank roundtable discussion.

Key issues to be discussed at the collaborative session will include:
*Localisation and Translation issues
*Improving the quality of learning
*How to work with consultants to develop the best courses – don’t just concentrate on classroom teaching
*Change the perception of learning beyond compliance
*Mobile and just-in-time learning

If you are involved in Learning, Training and Development within your organisation, then this is a collaborative session not to be missed. If you want to increase the levels of participation of learning within your company across all regions, then make sure that you register to come along.
